Labor and Birth

My labor started at 5:00am on May 4th. It was so mild that I thought they were just Braxton-Hicks but then we realized that they were 15 minutes apart around 10:00am. We hung out at the house for awhile getting a few things ready in case it was the real deal and then went to lunch and shopping. During this whole time I was having to stop talking during contractions but it was not too painful. At Target around 3:00pm I had a really bad contraction where I felt like I needed to throw up. We went home after that so that I could chill out. The really hard contractions started at 5:30pm and did not feel up to eating dinner. In between contractions I was still able to talk and crack jokes. Noelle said that she had never seen someone act like I did during labor. I labored on the ball some and then got in the water when they were worse. I kept throwing up over and over again which actually runs in the family. Ann checked me around midnight and I was 7cm. She broke my waters and I immediately went to a 9 and a half.... I had a lip on one side. The next contraction Ann pulled the lip aside. Yes... it was VERY painful. I went back to the pool and started pushing. When I was not progressing very quickly they stuck me on the toilet. Those were some painful pushes my friend. Somebody asked my if I felt burning and when I answered yes they frantically moved me to the bed. At first Ann told me that I was going to have to not push as hard so that I would not tear but then when the time came she calmly told me to push as hard as I could even between contractions. What I did not know at the time was that they could not find a heartbeat at all for five contractions and then when they found the heart tone it was only 40 (should be around 130). When he came out he had the cord wrapped around his neck three times. It was really scary for a minute but he pinked right up. I am so overjoyed with my beautiful little boy and I am so blessed to have him.

I am so excited to see these pictures!! You did such a great job, my friend - it's true, watching the first half of your "active" labor was HIGHLY entertaining, as someone said "you're doing a great job" and you responded "I know I am, I'm doing really well" DURING a contraction!!
I love you!!
